Context Collapse

About and methodology

Context Collapse examines moments when online discussion detaches a statement from its setting. Our aim is understanding, not scoring points.

Quote in full context

We reproduce the setup, the line in question, and what follows. A fragment is never presented as the whole.

Link and archive every source

Every piece of evidence carries a link to the original, plus an archived copy where one exists, so readers can verify it.

Steelman the critics

We state objections in their strongest, most reasonable form before evaluating them. Where critics are right, we say so.

Separate language, setup, and target

We distinguish the words used, the premise a joke or statement establishes, and who or what it is actually aimed at. A crude word can be offensive while the point it introduces is still worth evaluating on its own terms.
